Stephen Morris, DO | Sports Psychiatrist
About me
I’m Dr. Stephen Morris, a Board-Certified Psychiatrist and founder of Good Wolf Sports Psychiatry in Chicago, Illinois.
My work focuses on helping athletes and performers find balance between ambition and well-being so they can perform, recover, and live with inner clarity and confidence.
I completed my undergraduate degree at University of Wisconsin- Madison and medical degree at Kansas City University. I then completed psychiatry residency at Loyola University Medical Center, where I trained across inpatient, outpatient, and consultation-liaison settings. I also hold a Certificate of Additional Training in Sports Psychiatry through the International Society for Sports Psychiatry (ISSP), which deepened my focus on how mental health and sports intersect in the care of athletes and performers.
Outside of work, I’m a weekend warrior with a passion for sports. I grew up as a multi-sport athlete and draw on that experience to understand the mindset, discipline, and self-talk that come with any high-stakes pursuit. I enjoy learning about sports psychology, performance, mindfulness, and the pursuit of well-being. These interests continually inform how I think about focus, resilience, and self-compassion - both in sport and in life.
My approach
I believe the best care happens when psychiatry is personal, collaborative, and integrative.
In our work together, we’ll explore not only symptoms, but habits, patterns, and environments that shape performance and well-being. My treatment style blends psychotherapy, mindfulness, and careful medication management, with an emphasis on using medication as one tool among many.
I aim to create a space that feels supportive, confidential, and goal-oriented. A place where we can talk about the full picture of your life, not just diagnoses or prescriptions. Feeding the good wolf has helped me throughout my personal and professional life, and I am confident it can help you too.
Who I treat
Through my work with athletes and performers, I’ve seen how mental health directly impacts focus, motivation, and recovery. Whether you’re navigating performance anxiety, burnout, injury, or transitions within or beyond your sport, we’ll work together to strengthen your mental game and your sense of self.
I treat several conditions, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and bipolar disorders and aim to frame treatment within the context of your sport or vocation.
I currently serve adults (18+) via telehealth in Illinois, with limited slots available for in-person visits in downtown Chicago.
My goal is to build a practice that supports long-term growth for my patients, for athletes and performers across all levels, and for the evolving field of sports psychiatry itself.
