Golf Psychiatrist Chicago

Few sports expose the mental game like golf does. The time between shots, the room for doubt to creep in, the ability for one bad hole to spiral into five, or the way a swing that works on the range can easily disappear under pressure.

Most golfers know the mental game matters. Fewer know that there’s often a clinical layer underneath it, and that a psychiatrist who understands golf can actually do something about it.

Good Wolf Wellness takes an integrative approach, combining psychiatric expertise, therapy, and mental skills training in a single practice. That means whether you need a clinical evaluation, structured mental routines, or both, you don’t have to piece together care from multiple providers.

A golf-informed psychiatric evaluation looks at what’s actually driving the breakdown: anxiety, OCD mechanisms, attentional dysregulation, performance identity, burnout, or other factors. Then we build a plan that fits your game and your life.

Our Approach

What We Work On

  • Pre-shot routine anxiety: Pre-shot routine anxiety and the inability to quiet the mind between shots

  • The yips: The yips and movement-specific performance anxiety

  • Choking under pressure: Choking under pressure and what's happening neurologically and how to interrupt it

  • Intrusive thoughts: Intrusive thoughts or OCD-driven patterns that show up in golf

  • Inconsistency: Inconsistency between practice performance and course performance

  • Identity and frustration Identity and frustration around the game, when golf stops being enjoyable

Golf coaches fix your swing. Performance professionals teach mental skills. A psychiatrist who integrates therapy and performance science goes deeper, and identifies when anxiety, OCD, ADHD, or mood are the actual driver of what looks like a mental performance problem on the surface. That distinction matters when the mental game feels stuck despite doing the right things. Medication is available when clinically appropriate, never reflexively. The emphasis is on building awareness, insight, understanding and learning skills and approaches that help in the long game of golf and life.

Why a Psychiatrist

How We Work Together

Every golfer is different. Some want a defined program with clear goals and a finite timeline. Others want an ongoing relationship that evolves with their game and their life. Both are available.

Golf Mental Performance Program: A structured 5-session program designed to build the mental foundation of your game from the ground up. Sessions cover psychiatric evaluation, the neuroscience of performance under pressure, pre-shot routine and attentional control, emotional regulation between shots, and an individualized plan going forward.

Ongoing Psychiatric Care: For golfers who want a longer-term relationship, integrating therapy, mental skills development, and medication management when indicated across regular sessions. The pace and focus evolve based on where you are in your season, your game, and your life. 30-minute and 45-minute followup sessions available after initial intake.

  • Have a mental game that consistently underperforms their range game

  • Struggle with anxiety, pre-shot routine disruption, or performance under pressure

  • Want psychiatric evaluation, therapy, and mental skills work under one roof

  • Want to work with a psychiatrist who understands golf from the inside
